Work and Caregiving

If you care for a loved one and work, too, it can cause additional stress. But, you are not the only one. Nearly 62% of working caregivers have had to make adjustments to their work schedule.

Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's disease may seem like a full-time job. And for many, it's added to a job outside of the home. Here are some tips that may help you balance these responsibilities:

  • Keep a calendar of activities to help identify priorities.
  • If they are willing, ask coworkers and family to share the responsibilities at work and at home.
  • If your employer has a human resources advisor, speak with them to find out what programs and assistance your workplace may offer.
  • Many caregivers find it hard to balance work and caregiving. Weigh all of your options before you make a decision about changing your hours and responsibilities at work.
  • Don't neglect your own health.
  • Don't spend all your time at work or caregiving. Make time for you.
