Your Support Network

When you need to, it may be necessary to reach out to others. Family members, friends, and neighbors may want to help. They need you to tell them what kind of help they can give. Try to make specific requests when you can. Faith-based groups may also have services that can assist you. It may be hard to ask, but getting help when you need it may be beneficial.

Here are some tips that may help ease the stress of caregiving:

Try to stay in touch with friends. This may help you feel connected.
Seek out a support group where you can meet others taking care of loved ones. Organizations like the Alzheimer's Association or a local hospital may offer support groups in your area.
If leaving home is difficult, look for a support group that meets online.

When you're taking care of a loved one, you may not take good care of yourself. Your doctor should be part of your support network. Your doctor may see signs of depression or illness that you don't notice.

ARICEPT is well tolerated but may not be for everyone. People at risk for stomach ulcers or who take certain other medicines should tell their doctors because serious stomach problems, such as bleeding, may get worse. Some people who take ARICEPT may experience fainting. Some people may have nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bruising, or not sleep well.
