Health Insurance & ARICEPT

When you or a loved one has Alzheimer's, you may face financial issues. And you may worry about how to pay for treatment. Many health insurance plans have a prescription drug benefit. ARICEPT is covered by many of these plans. Call your loved one's health insurance provider for details.

Medicare and Medicare Part D

Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people age 65 and older and for people who are disabled. Medicare also provides prescription drug coverage. This coverage is known as Medicare Part D. It's generally open to everyone on Medicare. If you or your loved one qualifies for Medicare, eligibility may be met. This is the case even if they have been receiving drug coverage through Medicaid.

Medicaid

Medicaid is a program that pays for medical care for some people and families with low incomes. Prescription drug coverage through Medicaid has changed. Many people age 65 and older in lower income brackets will now get their coverage through Medicare Part D.

ARICEPT Patient Assistance Program

Some assistance programs may help pay for ARICEPT treatment when private insurance is not available or does not cover these costs. You may be able to get help paying for ARICEPT through the ARICEPT Patient Assistance Program. This program provides a supply of free ARICEPT to people who do not have prescription drug coverage through either public or private insurance or have reached their coverage gap (also known as the doughnut hole) for Medicare Part D. They also must have a gross income of less than $25,000 per year or $40,000 a year for people who are married or have dependents. Participants can only access this service through a medical professional, so talk to your doctor about it. If you have more questions about the program, call 1-800-226-2072.
